NORTHWEST ASSOCIATED CONSULTANTS INC.
MEMORANDUM
TO: Little Canada Planning Commission,
Mayor and City Council
FROM: Brad Nielsen
DATE: 25 August 1982
RE: Flood Plain Ordinance
FILE NO: 758.09 (81.45)
In order for Little Canada residents to maintain eligibility for the
National Flood Insurance Program, the City must adopt flood plain manage-
ment regulations consistent with State and Federal standards. Attached is
a preliminary draft of an amendment to the Little Canada Zoning Ordinance
which we believe will fulfill the necessary requirements.
The Ordinance relates to areas included on the Flood Insurance Rate Map
(FIRM) which was prepared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Joe Chlebeck will be distributing these maps as well as the Flood Insurance
Study (also prepared by FEMA) to all City officials.
The City must adopt the regulations prior to 3 November to maintain eligibility
in the insurance program. It is therefore hoped that the City could study the
proposed ordinance in September and hold a public hearing and adopt in early
October. In view of the deadline and the fact that the regulations tend to
be very -technical in nature, you are urged to contact our office with any
questions you may have prior to meetings at which the Ordinance will be
discussed.
The preliminary draft is being referred to FEMA and DNR simultaneous to City
distribution so as to receive any comments they may have as soon as possible
in order to expedite final adoption.
Again, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our office.
cc: Joe Chlebeck
Tom Sweeney
Don Carley
Ed Locke
4820 minnetonka boulevard, suite 420 minneaoolis, mn 55416 612/925-9420
00
