THINGS TO BRING UP TO COUNCIL
1) Determining the sewer & water charge on comercial buildings. In
view of the method of charging the number of sewer and water
units, a warehouse would use very small amounts of sewer and
water but are charged the same as a restaurant. The intent of
the sewer and water charge is to be fair, therefore, my suggestion
is to charge a sewer and water charge for each SAC unit. That
way the bussiness that used the most get charged the most.
2) The method and cost of filing for a variance. The cost of the
variance is so high that the individual people who need it the
most, will not file on the chance that they might be turned
down. Since the planner is at all the planning commission
meetings, his input on the variance is at hand. Does it have
to go through his office? In return there could be a variance
board, who would check each one out visibly and give their
findings. Also, would it be necessary that property owners
350 feet away be notified that someone wants to build closer to
the property line? The cost of the list is quite expensive.
The main people that should have any input should be the next
door neighbors and who's property it would affect. Therefore,
I would Like to propose to the council that three people be
appointed to the variance board and they investigate each
application and give their decision to the planning couunission.
At that time the city planner would have his input into the
request. With this type of procedure, the people who would
want a variance could afford to apply and there would be no
financial hardship on the homeowner.
7w
