CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
Office of:
JOSEPH G. CHLEBECK, Clerk
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minn. 55117
484 -2177
Dec. 2, 1983
TO: City Council
FROM: Ed Locke
SUBJECT: Appendix "E"
MAYOR
Raymond Hanson
COUNCI L
Michael Fahey
Beverly Scaize
Dennis Forsberg
Mugs Nardini
If the building addition is over the square footage requirement of
Appendix E, then only that addition would have to be sprinkled, not
the entire building. If an addition is under the square footage
requirement than it does not have to be sprinkled. If another addition
is added to this one, and is also less than the square footage requirement,
it still would not have to be sprinkled, according to the State
Building Code.
I talked to the Fire Marshal in Richfield regarding Appendix E, and
as to how many cities have or are looking at adopting it. He gave me
the following information:
1. Approximately 11 cities have Appendix E in effect.
2. 18 -19 cities are considering Appendix E.
3. 2 cities are not. (Golden Valley & West St. Paul)
4. St. Paul is looking at adopting something along the Appendix E line.
5. Minneapolis is going to adopt an ordinance that is as or more
stringent than Appendix E.
6. The City of Bloomington has had an ordinance requiring sprinklers for
commercial buildings for years. Bloomington has a class rating of "4"
and are looking at getting a rating of "3 ". That is better than Richfield.
Richfield has a full time Fire Department, Bloomington has a volunteer
Fire Department, and the biggest reason for this rating and being
able to have a volunteer department is the fact that they required
sprinklers in commercial buildings.
