MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />JUNE 6, 2013 <br />The Director reported that the chair of the Veterans' Memorial Committee <br />has asked that a member of the Parks & Rec Commission attend their next <br />meeting on Monday, June 17`11, 6 p.m. at the City Center. Slain <br />volunteered w attend the meeting. The Director noted that all members of <br />the Commission are welcomed to attend these meetings. <br />ICE The Commission discussed and agreed that an Ice Cream Social should <br />CREAM be held on Thursday, August ls`, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Spooner <br />SOCIAL Park utilizing the same format as in previous years. Steinert will <br />coordinate this event, and the Director indicated that he would arrange for <br />clowns as well as approach Culvers relative to refreshments. <br />NADEAU The Director reported that the Nadeau Park play equipment upgrade is <br />PARK PLAY nearly completed. There is some site work yet needed which should be <br />EQUIPMENT completed shortly. The Commission commented positively on the play <br />UPGRADE equipment upgrade. <br />The Director suggested that in lieu of the August Commission meeting, <br />that a grand opening celebration be planned for the week after Canadian <br />Days. The Commission agreed and plans will be formalized at the July <br />Commission meeting. <br />FIRE BARNS The Director reported that the architect is working to finalize building <br />WARMING plans. The building will include a warming house area, a storage area, <br />HOUSE as well as restrooms. The restrooms will be at the end of the building <br />PROJECT and will be accessible from the outside during warmer months for use by <br />the skateboard park and from the inside during the winter for use by <br />people using the rinks. The Director noted that the site poses some <br />challenges in that room must be provided between the building and rinks <br />for vehicle access both for the City and St. Paul Water Department as well <br />as must be handicapped accessible. The architect is working with the City <br />Engineer to finalize these issues. The architect is hoping to have plans <br />finalized within the next two weeks. The Director noted that the plan is to <br />have the Council approve the plan at its June 24th meeting so that the <br />project can get out to bid and constructed this fall. He indicated that he <br />will provide the Commission with copies of the plans for their review and <br />comment as soon as they are available. <br />FRIENDS The Director reported that the City received the donation of two trees <br />OF THE for installation in Thunder Bay Park which were purchased through the <br />PARKS Friends of the Parks Tree Sale. The City provided assistance in planting <br />TREE SALE these trees. <br />3 <br />
