Purpose. This rule authorizes optional provisions for the installation of on- premises fire suppression systems in ncvi <br />construction. It is intended to alleviate increasing demands for additional fire suppression resources by allowing a municipality <br />to adopt the optional provisions of this rule based on its local fire suppression capabilities. <br />B. Municipal option. The sprinkler system requirements in C. may be adopted without change by a municipality. If they are <br />adopted, the requirements are applicable throughout the municipality for new buildings. additions to buildings, and buildings for <br />which the occupancy classification is chanced. <br />C. Requirements. Automatic sprinkler systems must be installed and maintained in operable condition in buildings in the <br />occupancy classifications listed in 1. -12. This requirement is in addition toother minimum requirements set in the state building <br />code. The height and area increases provided for in sections 506 and 507 of the Uniform Building Code, as adopted in the state <br />building code Feeiefied.. ARC �F J�j~j� jL <br />1. Group A -I occupancies. <br />2. Group A -2 occupancies with an occupant load of 300 or more. <br />3. Group A -2.1 occupancies. <br />4. Group 8-1 service stations with 3,000 or more gross sq. ft. of area, not including canopies. <br />5. Group B -1 parking garages with 5.000 or more gross sq. ft. of area. <br />6. Group B -2 offices and post - secondary classrooms with 8.500 or more gross sq. ft. of area or three or more stories in <br />height. <br />7. Group B -2 retail, warehouse, or manufacturing areas with 2.000 or more gross sq. ft. of area or three or more stories in <br />height. <br />8. Group 8-1 and 8-2 occupancies with 8,500 or more gross sq. ft. in area or two or more stories in height, except for <br />minor additions that do not increase the occupant load or significantly increase the fire toad. <br />9. Group E -3 occupancies with an occupant load of 30 or more. <br />10. Group H -4 occupancies with 3,000 or more gross sq. ft. of area. <br />11. Group R -I apartment houses with 8.500 or more gross sq. ft. of area or with dwelling units on three or more floors, <br />except that when they are not required by Uniform Building Code, sections 1807 or 1907. or other provisions of the state <br />building code, automatic sprinkler systems within dwelling units in apartment occupancies are considered comle when <br />•�ry n�rc te <br />protection is provided in all habitable rooms.
