As with other communities in the new district, I
have requested to appear before the Council. Mr. Chlebeck has scheduled me
to appear at your meeting on April 13th at 8:00 p:m. Enclosed for background
information is a copy of my application and a map of the new district.
As noted on my application, I have been an elected local governmental offical
and community activist for most of my adult life. As a school board member,
I have consistently been visible, hard - working, grassroot oriented, well
prepared for meetings and honest. T will bring these qualities as a Council
member.
Generally, I want to pursue several of the recommendations provided in the
recently issued report of the Legislative Commission on Metropolitan
Governance. Commission recommendations, which were developed from 11 public
hearing in the Metro area during the past year, include:
1. External Accountability. The Legislature should strengthen and
clarify the accountability of metropolitan agencies in order to
improve their responsiveness to the various groups and government
agencies interested in metropolitan government.
2. Appointment of Members. The Legislature should improve the procedures
for selecting the members of the metropolitan agencies so that the
appointment process plays a more important and visible part in
educating people about the metropolitan affairs.
6
