MINUTES
Planning Commission
Feb. 11, 1988
Sign
Ordinance
(Cont.)
Economic
Development
Committee
Update
Adjourn
to the Commission noting that Little Canada is on the liberal end of
the cities surveyed.
The Planner reported that one of the justifications used by Larry Lee
for a variance is that he has 17 acres of property and only one building.
If the property were developed with 17 build ngs, 17 signs would be
allowed. Therefore, Lee felt that the one building should be allowed
a larger sign.
However, the Planner pointed out that if the property were developed
with 17 buildings, a road would need to be developed through the
parcel and only a few of the buildings would face the freeway.
The Planner noted that only Roseville's sign ordinance was more liberal
than Little Canada's allowing for a 225 square foot sign when Little
Canada would allow a 200 square foot sign.
Therefore, the Planner concluded that signage is not a key factor in
attracting businesses.
DeLonais reported that at a recent Economic Development Committee
meeting it was reported that the Boosalis developers are interested
in purchasing the 8 single - family homes near Rice Street along
County Road C and putting in a retail -type development. DeLonais
reported that it is his understanding that the property owners do not
want to sell and are forming a group to oppose this purchase.
Davison recommended that the meeting be adjourned.
Motion seconded by Costa.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
Therebeing no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Gl,, zer
Recording Secretary
Page 9
