81 <br />follows: <br />1. Determine needs of the project and your organization <br />as this will serve as the basis for the selection <br />process.137 <br />2. Develop a listing of possible CM firms. This can be <br />done by talking with other organizations who have utilized <br />CM. State associations representing your jurisdiction can <br />also assist with this process. <br />3. Prepare a "request for proposals" which explains the <br />nature of the project and develops a format for responses <br />from interested firms that allows you to evaluate their <br />personnel, capabilities, experience, and fees. <br />4. Rate the proposals based on the firms which best <br />match your agency's needs. <br />5. Choose the top three for interviews with the selec- <br />tion committee. Interviews should be structured so as to <br />treat each firm fairly and consistently. The interview <br />should be expected to last approximately one hour per firm. <br />It should include time for a brief presentation by the firm, <br />structured interview questions, and a wrap -up question and <br />answer period. Be sure to interview the team which will be <br />working for your organization.
