PLANNING REPORT
northwest associated corsultants, inc.
T0: Little Canada Mayor and City Council
FROM: David Licht
DATE: 24 October 1984
RE: Michlitsch - Home Occupation
FILE NO: 758.09 - 84.48
BACKGROUND
The applicant is requesting the relocationof his mail order sporting goods
and firearms business to his home which is located at 116 Australian Avenue.
Due to the nature of the proposed operation, approval of a "special home
occupation permit" is required.
CASE ANALYSIS
This case generates three possible concerns which if handled in a proper
fashion should not create difficulties for the neighborhood and area.
The first is the quantity and storage of ammunition and reloading powders
and primers. An excess quantity of these materials stored on site could
pose a potential fire and explosive hazard. The storage of these items should
be subject to a location and quantities approved by the Fire Marshall.
A second concern deals with delivery of merchandise to the home. While
most deliveries would typically be confined to United Parcel Service, larger
quantities of materials might require delivery by motor freight lines
utilizing semi's. A restriction prohibiting semi truck deliveries is
suggested to prevent neighborhood disruption, as well as avoiding such traffic
generation from a public safety concern.
The final possible problem relates to customers present at the site at one
time. To minimize neighborhood disruption and avoid parking concerns which
relate to inconvenience as well as public safety, it is suggested that customers
be limited to no more than one person at a time.
4R7n minnctonka blvd minneaoolis minnesot1 ste. 420 55416 tel 612/9 25 -9421
