MINUTES
Planning Commission
Aug. 9, 1984
Behr
(Cont.)
Mr. Behr reported that he would no longer have external storage of
equipment. Everything would be stored in the garage. Also, he has
removed the forklift from the property and he will try to keep
parking off the street.
Mr. Costas asked how many mowers were sold per week and if repairs
were done on the premises. Mr. Behr stated that he sells an average
of three machines per week and he does do small repairs on the premises.
Mrs. Timmons asked how the appliances got to the property. Mr. Behr
replied that they were delivered by pickup truck. Mr. Behr stated
that he does have a trailer that he stores in the back of the property.
Mr. Behr reported that small engine repair is allowed under the
ordinance and felt that his occupation should also be allowed.
Mr. Licht pointed out that there have been complaints about the
operation. Mr. Behr felt that this was because of external storage
and he would no longer have this.
Mr. Licht pointed out that if there are complaints about other home
occupations, their permits are pulled.
Mrs. Timmons pointed out that the City did not allow Oscar Lane his
home occupation nor the gentleman on Viking Drive. Mrs. Timmons
stated that she would not want this operation next to her home and
pointed out that this is the reason people are paying residential
taxes and not commercial.
Timmons also agreed with the neighbor who sent a letter in against
the proposal, that it did devalue the property values of surrounding
properties.
Mr. Behr pointed out that everything would be housed in the garage.
Mr. Licht asked if there would be room for cars in the garage. Mr.
Behr replied that there would not. The Planner stated that under
the ordinance there must be room for two vehicles either in the
garage or in front of the garage.
Mr. Ducharme pointed out that there have been complaints on the
operation.
Mr. Licht pointed out that the operation was a privleged type of
operation on a residential property and it is enfringing on the
residential area. Licht stated that there are other areas zoned
in the City for this type of operation.
Mr. Ducharme recommended that the special home occupation permit requested
by Mr. Terry Behr he denied.
Motion seconded by Mr. Perlinger.
Page —5—
