The flews to the Lake
Gervais Lift Station were greater than the capacity of the station
and, on Thursday evening, sewage was pumped to the swamp adjacent to
the lake for a short period of time. The flaw was diverted only until
other Treasures were initiated.
To reduce the flow to the Lake Gervais Lift Station the upstream lift
station at Hugo was shut down and the flaw was stored in the pipe
during the days and pumped out during the lower flaws at night. The
lift station serving the Gan Lake area was shut down and the sewage
diverted into a drainage ditch and into Kohlman Lake. The Gan Lake
Lift Station was shut down for several days. Samples were taken of
the flow from the lift station and it had law concentrations of sewage
because of the inflow into the sewers. Samples from the flaw from the
drainage ditch revealed very low concentrations of sewage. Impact on
the lakes would not be measurable because of the dilution.
The Commission has plans to construct a 60 -inch gravity interceptor
between the Lake Gervais Lift Station and the existing interceptor at
the intersection of Highways 36 and 61. The construction has not
taken place before this time because of delays in the construction
grant funds for the enlargement of the Lower Beltline Interceptor
downstream of the Lake Gervais Interceptor. The Minnesota Pollution
Control Agency (MPCA) also has delayed issuing the permit for the
construction of the Lake Gervais Interceptor until construction is
initiated on the Lower Beltline Interceptor. The Canmission will
again request that the MPCA issue the permit for the Lake Gervais
Interceptor in advance of the initiation of the Lower Beltline
Interceptor.
9
