PAUL, MINN. 55102 <br />April 12, 1984 <br />Re: Soo Line Railway Bridge on Rice Street <br />Dear Mr. Chelbeck: <br />For several years the Soo Line Railroad Bridge on Rice St. <br />south of North Owasso Blvd. has been the scene of many serious <br />accidents including several fatalities. <br />The bridge underpass was treacherous when Rice Street was a <br />two lane highway. Now that Rice St. is an improved wider road both <br />north and south of the bridges the traffic has to funnel thru creating <br />a more serious condition.. <br />Yesterday there was an accident involving a truck that was stuck <br />under the bridge and an automobile. Both drivers were seriously injured. <br />In addition every time there is an accident under the bridge it creates <br />a traffic jam north and south of the bridge that lasts for hours and ties <br />up alot of manpower. <br />A truck driver stopped in yesterday and suggested that until <br />something is done with the bridge the railroad company should place <br />a large sign in reglective material that indicates 13' 4" clearance. <br />., COPY HAS BEEN SENT TO MNDOT. - <br />Very truly yours, <br />Charles Zacharias, Sheriff of Ramsey Co. <br />By: Fred Spencer, Div.
