Keller Parkway Bike Lane
March 29, 1989
Page 3
that we were not interested in a separated bike path
because there simply was not enough right -of -way, nor were
the citizens interested in 6' wide shoulders and a 32'
roadway along Keller Parkway since it would simply become
a freeway. The Mayor summarized the consensus by saying
that we were most interested in improving safety by having
some type of graveled or paved shoulder along the roadway
to provide more safety for pedestrians and /or bikers.
Most of the people present felt that a paved shoulder
would be more appropriate than a graveled shoulder.
Commissioner McCarty indicated that the County had enjoyed
some success in using bituminous millings in resurfacing
shoulders and that the City should consider that.
At the end of the meeting, the Mayor summarized the various
discussions and asked interested residents to sign up to serve on a
commission which would study this particular issue. He indicated
he would be bringing the results of this meeting to the full
Council for their action. Commissioner McCarty advised the Mayor
that the Department of Public Works would make a staff member
available to serve on the committee and that the County would also
prepare a summary of the various County policies that would be
involved in any consideration of widening Keller Parkway.
MIF:kpv
Page 7
