History of Little Canada. <br />The Historical Society of Little Canada is planning to complete a major publication <br />on the "History of Little Canada" which will focus, not only on events and places, <br />but particularly on people and families. The publication is being planned to coincide <br />with the Celebrate Minnesota 1990 project. The book will be completed in 1989 <br />and available for distribution during the Celebrate Minnesota 1990 celebration. <br />Spooner Park <br />Spooner Park will be the focal point of Canadian Days and the Celebrate Minnesota <br />1990 program. The City will recognize the recent purchase of Spooner Park from <br />the School District and the construction of the new Community Room Addition <br />to the Elementary School. A new play facility will he built in Spooner Park to <br />recognize the many new young families that have moved to the City. A new trail <br />connection will be made to improve access to parking, electrical facilities will <br />be improved and landscaping will be added. <br />Centerville Road Park <br />The new park between Centerville Road and Desoto Street north of LaBore Road <br />will have it's grand opening celebration in 1990. Grading and seeding will be done <br />in 1989 and it is hoped that many of the other facilities, including rails, building <br />and courts can be completed in 1990. A new trail on Desoto Street will connect <br />Centerville Road Park with Spooner Park. <br />City Entrance Beautification <br />The new bridge on Little Canada Road at I -35E has just been completed. The <br />City of Little Canada and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are <br />cooperating on a joint effort to landscape and beautify the freeway interchange <br />and Little Canada Road. It is hoped that the beautification of this major entrance <br />to the City can be completed by 1990. <br />THE GRANT <br />In order to assist the City of Little Canada with the improvement projects that <br />are part of the Celebrate Minnesota 1990 program, the State of Minnesota has <br />announced that the City of Little Canada will receive a $25,000 grant. The grant <br />requires matching funds from the City on a 3 to 1 basis or $75,000 for the maximum <br />$25,000 grant.
