MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
August 10, 1989
Bendel asked why a new fire hall was needed.
The City Planner reported that it has been determined that
the existing fire hall is not structurally sound and there
is also the problem that the overhead clearance is not
sufficient and new equipment could not be accommodated in
the fire hall. There is also the parking problem that
exists at the site. Cost of remodeling the existing
building would be too great.
DeLonais suggested that the existing City Hall be expanded
rather than constructing a new City Hall.
The Planner replied that the City may expand the existing
City Hall, but felt the option should be left open for a
City Hall location at the fire hall site.
DeLonais pointed out that the existing fire hall could be
used by the Recreation Department or the senior citizens as
a meeting place.
The Planner reported that the City Council has hired an
architect to do preliminary work on the fire hall, and costs
estimates should be availabe in the near future. The
Council is considering a bond referendum to finance the fire
hall construction.
CODE Bendel expressed concern that developers are not being
ENFORCEMENT required to complete such items such as landscaping, bonds
are not being taken when necessary, etc.
The Planner pointed out that it is difficult to get things
like landscaping completed, and reported that he and the
Building Inspector are working on these items. The Planner
pointed out that the building process takes a long time, and
landscaping is the last thing that gets completed. The
Planner also stated that usually there is an excuse such as
weather to hold off completion of landscaping, and that is
where a bond would come in to force the developer to
complete his landscaping. The Planner stated that in some
instances the City has been at fault in not requiring
submission of a bond.
Page —12—
