MC All NM REGIONAL TRANSIT BOARD Mears Park Centre 230 East 5th Sheet St. Paul, Minnesota 55101 612/292 -8789 August 22, 1989 To: Interested Communities As part of its effort to improve transit services throughout the region, the Regional Transit Board (RTB) is soliciting proposals from communities within the transit taxing district for the purpose of planning new and innovative transit services responsive to their needs. Types of planning projects eligible for funding under the Community Transit Planning Grant Program are: examination of restructuring existing or new services including regular route, subscription bus, community circulators, dial -a -ride services, reverse commutes, suburb to suburb circulators, rural circulators, ridesharing strategies, along with other types of transit services communities may identify. The Community Transit Planning Grant Program has been established to enlist community involvement in planning transit services that help meet present or future transit needs. Grants will be provided to communities based on the evaluation and selection of their proposal. Funding under this program is to be used for the purpose of planning transit services, with funding for implementation built into future budgets and legislative requests using the adopted RTB cost sharing arrangements. The timetable established for this program calls for proposals to be submitted to the RTB no later than October 5, 1989. A review team will evaluate the proposals and make recommendations to the Regional Transit Board. The Board will make grant awards sometime later in October or in early November.
