CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
Office of:
JOSEPH G. CHLEBECK, Clerk
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minn. 55117
484 -2177
September 13, 1989
TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
MAYOR
Michael Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Bill Blesener
Rick Collova
Jim LaValle
FROM: KATHY GLANZER
RE: ORGANIZED COLLECTION
The following is additional information on organized collection:
White Bear Lake - Has a subsidized rate of $8.65 per month for
at- the -door trash pick -up for seniors and handicapped. WBL allows
suspension of service for extended vacations. However, require dates
for discontinuing service as well as resuming service.
White Bear Township - Has a $3.00 charge for at the door trash
service. However, seniors and handicapped pay half -rate.
The Township allows the suspension of service for periods of time
when the resident is on an extended vacation. This is coordinated
between the resident and the trash hauler.
North St. Paul - Has at- the -door trash pick -up for seniors and
handicapped at no extra charge, due to the limited demand for this
service.
North St. Paul allows for the suspension of service for vacations,
but requests for suspension must be submitted to the Council for
review and approval.
Ramsey County - I spoke with Colleen Halpine at Ramsey County and
obtained the following information:
The County prefers that residential and commercial trash not be
mixed. However, if a resident has a business within their same
community, they are not concerned with the business -owner bringing
his residential trash to his business. But if the business is
located outside the city in which the business -owner lives, the
County prefers that the residential trash not be transported from one
city to another. The County pointed out that each city is
responsible for its own trash.
I discussed the use of incinerators with Halpine, who indicated that
the County requires a permit for commercial incinerators, but not
residential. However, State regulations must be complied with for
both commercial and residential incinerators.
