The low bid was received from BE Construction with a base bid of $216,666, and Alternate No. 1 bid of $8,995 for a total of $225,661. Steve Morelan, President of the Rec Association, was present at the meeting and informed the Commission that the membership of the Rec Association approved a donation in the amount of $200,000 for construction of the building. Since the low bid is greater than $200,000, the membership of the Association will have to act on whether or not they wish to donate additional funds towards the project. There was some discussion on the possibility of an additional donation of $16,666, with the City picking up the $8,995 for Alternate No. 1. Alternate No. 1 covers the cost of bringing the electrical and irrigation systems into the building. It was the recommendation of the Park Commission that the Council accept and award the low bid of BE Construction for a total of $225,661, which includes Bid Alternate No. 1, contingent upon satisfactory reference checks, and with the recommendation that the City pick up the cost of $8,995 for Bid Alternate No. 1. The next meeting of the membership of the Rec Association is scheduled for May 3rd. Therefore, Council may wish to delay awarding the low bid until its May 9th meeting in order to give the City time to investigate the funding situation. pane 11P
