HANSON, Administrator
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
612-484-2177
FAX: 612- 484 -4538
CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: May 4, 1990
RE: Engineering Contract
Attached is the final draft of the engineering contract
between the City of Little Canada and Bonestroo, Rosene,
Anderlik, & Associates, Inc. The City Attorney is
reviewing this document and will have a recommendation
available for Wednesday's meeting. I do not anticipate any
significant changes will result from this review.
A major issue addressed with this contract deals with cost
control of engineering fees. Specifically, it is my
concern that we not reward an engineering firm for quantity
overruns by applying the fee schedule to the amount paid to
the contractor. It is my opinion that the proposed
compensation language is equitable to both the City and the
engineering firm while still allowing us some degree of
control over these costs.
Another issue regarding compensation of the engineers deals
with the hourly rates to be charged. In this contract, we
are agreeing to rates for a five -year period which will be
adjusted annually be the Twin Cities Consumer Price Index
Factor. By doing so, we have assured ourselves that rates
will not be adjusted upward in a fashion inconsistent with
market conditions.
If this document is acceptable, its execution should be
authorized at Wednesday night's meeting.
JRH:kpv
Enclosures
P'e° 15
MAYOR
Michael Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Bill Blesener
Rick Collova
Jim LaVaile
