The annual
fee for this license is $10.
Staff has noted the following problems with our business licensing
policy:
* The $10 fee is inadequate to cover costs associated with
processing the license.
* Not every business pays their license fee.
* It is virtually impossible to keep track of every business
that moves in and out of the City.
In a conversation with our Fire Chief, Frank Graczyk, he noted that
the Fire Department has not been using the business license
information for monitoring of potentially hazardous conditions.
(They have developed another method to address this need.)
Apparently, one of the primary motives in establishing the "business
license" was to address the needs of the Fire Department.
Attached is a chart which shows how our neighboring cities address
licensing issues. It should be noted that this information was
compiled by using information provided to us by these cities. It is
possible that they omitted some information which could have made
this comparison more accurate. However, I feel this chart is still
valuable in providing us with a general guide which can be used to
help us evaluate our policy.
'35
