A final comment. Signs are important for business operation, but
are successful only when they are clear and readable. A
streetscape cluttered with too many signs is counterproductive
both for the business communication effort and from the community
environment aspect. In addition, as important as signs may be,
businesses do not make siting decisions based on a community's
sign ordinance. In the development process, businesses locate
according to competition and street traffic. Not until late in
the process do businesses ask about sign information. To be
sure, they will request as much signage as they can get.
However, as an economic development tool, sign regulation plays
little role.
cc: Joel Hanson
Kathy Glanzer
John Palacio
Tom Sweeney
Nick Boosalis
4
Page 115
