Office of:
JOEL R. HANSON, Administrator
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
612-484-2177
FAX: 612-484-4538
CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: June 22, 1990
RE: City Newsletter Publication
MAYOR
Michael Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scelze
Bill Blazoner
Rick Colinas
Jim LeValle
Staff has recently undertaken an evaluation of the procedures we
utilize to prepare our City newsletter. Some of the issues evaluated
included the use of recycled paper, utilization of in -house versus
outside staff, establishment of a committee to determine articles for
each newsletter, and deadlines for submittal of newsletter to
printer. Based on this review, we generated the following
recommendations:
* Use of Recycled Paper - -In today's society, it makes sense
for the City to be environmentally sensitive. We reviewed
the costs of printing our newsletter on standard paper
versus recycled paper and discovered the City could utilize
recycled paper at a savings to us in newsletter printing
costs.
* Presently, we utilize outside writer services to help us
with articles involving interviews of new employees. Other
articles are prepared by City staff or members of the
community for submission for printing. Based on this fact,
it is our feeling that we could coordinate this work
in -house thereby eliminating the use of a third party
writer. This too will result in the savings of some costs.
* To ensure that the newsletter is addressing the pertinent
subjects of interest to the community, it is our
recommendation that we form a committee to meet prior to the
printing of each newsletter to discuss what
issues /information should be addressed. This committee
would be made up of members of the staff and ideally a
member or two of the City Council. The purpose of this
committee would be to meet in an editorial fashion to
discuss what articles should be included and then to direct
staff to make the necessary contacts to obtain those
articles.
gePAGE 141
