FROM:
RE:
DATE:
REPORT TO THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
Bill Sanders
Pioneer Park Seeding
July 11, 1990
We have been carefully monitoring the progress of the seeding at
Pioneer Park and have reviewed the site with the seeding
Contractor, Gary Houle of Lino Lakes Landscaping.
The grass has improved significantly since the mowing began a
couple of weeks ago. There are varying amounts of grass
established throughout the Park and we can expect the grass to
continue to fill in and the weed growth to diminish.
We are recommending that the following steps be taken to establish
a dense and uniform grass cover:
1. The lawn areas must be mowed and maintained so that
the grass height does not exceed 4 ". This helps to
control weed growth and stimulates spreading of
grass roots.
2 Cut weeds /grass that have formed mats over lawn
areas must be raked up and removed.
3. Fertilizer (20- 10 -10) must be applied immediately
at a rate of 400 lbs /acre. The City may do the
work or Lino Lakes Landscaping (the seeding
Contractor) may be hired to apply the fertilizer at
a cost of $80.00 /acre for a total cost of $1,600.00
4. All eroded areas must be repaired prior to
reseeding. Repair will consist of filling gullies
and low spots with topsoil and compacting the
topsoil to minimize future settling. Lino Lakes
has quoted a price of $8.40 /cu. yd. for the work
and buck Blacktop has quoted $10.00 /cu. yd. We
estimate that not more than 300 cu. yd. will be
required for a total maximum cost of $2,520.00
(using Lino Lakes price). Any areas that are low
due to improper grading initially will be filled
with topsoil by Lino Lakes at no charge to the
City.
Page 15
