Mayor and City Council
March 9, 1990
Page 2
Involvement in Organizations Outside of City:
(League of Minnesota Cities, International City Management
Association, Minnesota City Management Association,
Metropolitan Area Management Association, and RCLLG)
With this item, I am expecting to be a participant in all
j of these organizations. The question is to what degree? I
feel there is an indirect benefit to the City in serving on
various committees or holding offices with these
organizations. Benefits would take the form of "being in
the know" about issues and improved recognition of our
community. The trade off is time away from the office. At
this point, I plan on attending the relevant conferences
and meetings and possibly serving on a committee or two.
(I am presently on the Minnesota City Management
Association's spring conference planning committee.)
I would like to know if the Council concurs with my opinion
or if you have another perspective.
Communications with City Council:
Communication is the key to a well - runned organization and
I want to know if I am meeting your expectations in this
regard. Here are my specific concerns:
* Are agenda materials meeting your expectations?
* Do you have any guidelines regarding the types of
communications you expect that I may not now be
doing?
* To help insure that all members are receiving
information as equally as possible, would you like
to set up monthly sessions on a one on one basis?
Possibly we could meet for breakfast, lunch or at
some other time of convenience whereby I could
address your information needs and update you on
issues as I see them.
Administrator's Function with Park and Planning
Commissions:
For this item, I would like you to define what your
expectations of me are in this regard. Let me emphasize
that I feel a strong sense of responsibility for the
operation of the City and to that extent I expect to be
knowledgable about the activities of these Commissions. I
would also expect, at a minimum, to be available to these
people on an "as needed" basis when my services are
required. Do you have other expectations that I should
address?
