Primarily,
the suggestions relate to the problems of late submissions and
inadequate site plans or documentation for an application. These
cause two principal problems. One, a lot of time is wasted in
tracking down the plans, or staff reports get lengthy because we
have to speculate on issues which could be avoided if the plan
was in and properly prepared. The second is that of enforcement.
Enforcement problems are often caused by lack of sufficient basis
for plan review on the front end. Proper submissions would solve
this problem, saving a lot of time and money trying to enforce
after the project is up and operating.
Related to this, is a comprehensive packet of information for
potential applicants and staff to use in preparing applications.
Currently, applications are accepted with nothing more than the
fee, with a promise of plans to follow.
Regarding the possibility of the Building Official reviewing
single family garage additions, our only comments would be John's
available time for such review and potential for complicated
applications causing later problems. Our typical single garage
expansion review doesn't often exceed the application fee, and
when it does, it is usually because of a complicating issue or
policy problem. Let me know if you need any other comments in
this regard.
Page 14
4601 Excelsior Blvd. •Suite 410 •Minneapolis, MN 55416'(612) 9259420 • Fax 925-•2721
