355 EAST KELLOOG BLVD.
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA 55101
ARCHITECTS S12- 291 -020E
October 18, 1990
Mr. Joel Hanson, City Administrator
City of Little Canada
515 East Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
RE: Pioneer Park Recreation Building
Little Canada, Minnesota
Dear Mr. Hanson:
In response to your request for additional information and back-
up regarding the Change Orders for the above referenced project,
I submit the following for each Change Order.
A.) Hollow Metal. Deduct $65.00. Changing the gauge of exterior
hollow metal frames from 14 gauge to 16 gauge due to availability
of frames. (Previously Approved)
B.) Earthwork. Add $1983.00. These charges are due to soil cor-
rections required due to the fact that the original sewer and
water stubs were found to be under the shelter area column pad
footings. The corrective work was done in response to the requi-
rements of the soils engineer, Braun Engineering and Testing.
The original stubs were located in anticipation of a future
building that was assumed to occupy a site area of only 40'X40'.
(Previously Approved)
C.) Floor Trusses /Wood Beams. Add $2,589.00. This Change Order
actually originated in the Bidding Phase of the Project. As is
most common with the design of wood trusses we, as Architects
and /or Engineers, give the design parameters in terms of span
and depth and anticipated loading. The individual manufacturers
of the metal plates that connect the truss components all have
their own programs for the engineering and in fact do the act-
ual truss design.
During the bidding process, floor truss manufacturers made me
aware that they could not design a truss to span the full 29'
width of the building north of the north stair, nor could they
design the girders in the 14" floor depth. (The girders run
north and south at the east and west centers and carry the wall
and roof even though they are actually located in the floor.)
As I had no way of knowing who all of the sub - bidders would be
Page 106
