October 18, 1990
Mr. Hanson
Page Two
to get new information to, and since there were only a few days
remaining until bids were due, I made the decision to bid as
drawn and resolve the matter during construction with a Change
Order.
The Change Order breaks down as follows;
1.) Recess plate labor is the charge to set all treated wood
bearing plates down 11/2" into the poured concrete bond
beams so that we could maintain our floor to floor
height while switching from a top chord bearing truss
to a bottom chord bearing truss.
2.) The truss material charge is for the increased size
girders and additional set -up required to make the add-
itional trusses which were needed after we introduced
micro -lam beams to reduce the overall truss span. In
effect we cut the longer trusses into two pieces so
that we had a two for one gain.
3.) Truss labor was increased by having additional peices
to install plus much larger girders to install.
4. & 5.) Micro -lam beams were added as per number 2 above.
6. Crane was required to install the larger girders.
D.) Additional Earthwork. Add $297.00. This was actually sub-
contractors overhead and profit that I had previously disallowed
from the original Earthwork /Soil Corrections Change Order. The
Contract Documents allow for this addition.
E.) Irrigation System. Add $2,801.00. This Change Order was
necessitated by the requirements of the State of Minnesota
Department of Health. Please refer to the attached. I have con-
firmed with Larry Walker of Sanders and Associates, Inc. that
none of these items were to have been a part of the original
Contract for Construction of the original irrigation equipment.
Our work was to only involve the relocation of the existing
irrigation equipment into the new building. Drawings were pre-
pared on the assumption that the original installation was
satisfactory to the Department of Health and that the relocation
would be also since we were only moving what was outside to the
inside.
F.) Change Type 'A' Fixture. Add $3,510.00. All Type 'A' light
fixtures as originally scheduled for this project were rejected
by the Electrical Inspector, Mr. Dick Nelson of Metro Inspection
Services. The fixtures were rejected as being unacceptable for
use in anything other than fire resistive construction, which of
course wood is not. The fixtures, manufactured by Kurt Verson,
also bore a label stating the same. My Electrical Engineers
specified these fixtures on the basis of literature provided by
the manufacturer, literature which contains no information as to
limitations on the fixture or it's use.
Page 107
