Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
October 19, 1990
Page 3
architects regarding changes in work scope were added at these
various phases and the plans and specs were prepared accordingly.
Bid prices were received on these items and contracts let with these
items included. The totals used in our analysis reflect the addition
of these items. While the architects may have expended additional
hours over what they expected, we have in fact compensated them under
the terms of our contract for these work items. Furthermore, our
contract spells out a maximum fee for services which I feel applies
in reference to these requests. Therefore, I cannot recommend any
additional compensation at this time pursuant to our contract. The
architect's fee on the Fire Hall would be $79,765.00 and the fee on
the City Hall would be $32,201.84
For work involving the re -bid of the retaining wall, the architects
appear to be owed additional compensation pursuant to Section 3.3.9.
I would recommend we pay them for the hours expended_
I have attached copies of pertinent sections of the contract for your
•review. Areas have been highlighted to indicate those which merit
• your attention.
JRH:kpv
Enclosures
Page 6
