HANSON, Administrator 515 Little Canada Road Little Canada, MN 55117 612-484-2177 FAX: 612-484-4538 CITY OF LITTLE CANADA RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator DATE: November 21, 1990 RE: Payoff of Sheriff's Department Overtime Attached is a memo I was given a copy of at our last Sheriff's Department Liaison Committee meeting. As you will note, the County Board is determined to payoff overtime of the Sheriff's Department to reduce the accrued financial liability. The contract cities are responsible for $106,000 of this amount. It should be noted that this overtime has been accrued over a number of years and not just in the current budget year. You will also note that this payoff is in excess of our budget amount as stated in our contract. We have asked the Sheriff's Department to give us an actual calculation of each respective cities' portion of this liability. At this time, I would estimate that Little Canada's share will be slightly over $9,500. It is my recommendation that we approve the payoff of the overtime liability in the 1990 budget year. The source of funding for this payoff will be the rebated PERA amounts for the deputies that we received earlier this year as a settlement for 1989 cost. This allows us the opportunity to use the 1990 refund to help lower the cost of our 1991 budgeted amount. It is also my opinion that these costs are more accurately reflected in this current budget year than in subsequent budget years. If you are in agreement with this concept, we would need authorization approving the payoff of the overtime amount as determined by the Sheriff's Department.
