LITTLE CANADA FIRE DEPARTMENT, INC.
440 LITTLE CANADA ROAD • LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA 55117
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Frank Graczyk, Fire Chief
DATE: November 27, 1990
RE: Proposed Uses for the Fire Station Building
A meeting was held by the Fire Department's Board of
Directors on Monday, November 19, 1990 at 7:00 p.m. for the
purpose of discussing the proposed uses for the old fire
station building. Initially, it should be noted that the
Fire Department's interest in the existing building at
440 Little Canada Road is related to the lower hall /kitchen
area only. Thought may be given at some later date to
keying the lower accesses and stairway access separately
from that of the north entrance of the building.
In light of the fact that the existing station was built by
the Fire Department members and for the past 45 years the
Fire Department has provided for the upkeep and
maintenance, it was the consensus of the Board that we ask
to remain as continuing custodians of the lower level. We
will ask for the exclusive authority for its' scheduled
use - -to include official Fire Department purposes and the
approved personal use by it's membership.
The Fire Department will continue to provide manpower to
open the hall to City residents in the event of the need
for a storm shelter. As in the past, our responsibility
for that service is limited to that period beyond normal
business hours.
The lower level of the building will be made available to
any City sponsored organization for group
functions -- dependent upon it's availability as determined
by our scheduling committee and the requesting group's
agreement to the provisions for its use.
Finally, it is recommended that we and the City initiate an
official document that will transfer ownership of the
building from the Fire Department to the City.
Additionally, a formal agreement should be reached and
spelled -out for the future stating the Fire Department's
rights and responsibility in the use of the lower level.
FG:kv
Pagel
es,q()
