I. Implementation of Computer Aided Dispatch. This will be a joint venture with the City of St. Paul. The Computer Aided Dispatch should be functional by July of 1991. The County seems to be picking up the costs of equipment purchase and implementation. I am not sure how the costs are going to be passed on to the contract radio users but I will pass the information on as soon as it becomes available. Soon to follow CAD will be the Mobile Data Terminal system (MDT). I believe that the MDT's will be installed in the squads and operational by early 1992. I believe the Contract Cities will be required to purchase the number of MDTs required in the squads assigned to those particular cities. The MOT system may also be incorporated into St. Paul's system but our options are still open on that. It looks like 1993 will be the magic year for our long awaited computerised records system. The determination has not been made yet as to what system will be installed. As you know there are several excellent ones on the market. Systems Concepts of Colorado (the folks who made the CAD) are working on a records system. It should be marketable soon and that may be one option for us. Also the City of St. Paul is working on a records system and that is another option. Again, I will keep you informed as things progress. II. DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program. The DARE Program was initiated in our Contract Cities in January of 1990 as a pilot program. The pilot schools were: Turtle Lake, Island Lake and Saint Odelia. The program was very successful and received well by students, teachers and parents. A second Deputy Sheriff was put into the program and began teaching in September of 1990. Between the two Deputies all of the shcools in our contract area will have the benefit of the DARE Program. The Contract Cities may be asked to share in the cost of this program in 1992 so I'm sure that this will be a discussion topic. Hopefully I have covered the major topics.
