SUMMARY
The Ramsey County Sheriff's Department would like to apply to the Office of Drug
Policy for a Crime Prevention Grant. The Ramsey County Sheriff's Department
requests a grant for $50,000. The money received would be used to finance one
full time Crime Prevention officer and the remaining funds to be used for
equipment and education materials.
Ramsey County Sheriff's contract cities have a population of 67,500
residents, and we answered 31,268 calls for service during 1989.
We currently have an inadequate crime prevention program and are unable to meet
the needs of our community. With the funds from the grant we ould expand and
enrich our current Crime Prevention Program and initiate several new programs.
These programs, Neighborhood Park watch and neighborhood Apartment Watch
have been successful in other areas.
The objectives of these programs are to reduce the fear of crime and to
encourage citizens to report suspicious activity or a crime in progress. By
educating the citizens and encouraging them to take part of the responsibility
for preventing crime in their own neighborhood, we hope to create a positive
attitude among the citizens and by encouraging them to work together, they can
develop a sense of community and togetherness.
2
Page 17
