TO: Dispatch Personnel
FROM: Lt. Daniel J. Votel
Investigation Unit
Attached you will find the new policy on Accepting and
investigating Worthless Documents Complaints.
The most significant changes are a requirement of a minimum
of $50.00 dollar amount and not more than 30 days passage
from the time the check was written to the current date of
reporting. Multiple checks from the same person can be
aggregated to reach the $50.00 minimum.
I am requesting that effective August 15,1990, when a
person calls in with such a report and requests a Deputy to
take a report, that you screen the call for those the above
two minimums to be present. If they are not, advise the
person of our policy change, and refer those persons to
either Conciliation Court or Collection Agencies. If the
above minimums are present, dispatch a squad to take the
report. The deputy can ascertain if all the other
requirements are met and act accordingly.
As always, we will take all reports on any forgeries,
regardless of dollar amount.
If you encounter abusive behavior as a result of making
this advisal of the new policy, refer those people directly
to me. If the party requests a copy of our policy, please
forward their name and address to me.
Thank you for you cooperation in this matter.
Page 38
