August 3, 1990
RE: Ramsey County Sheriff's Policy change regarding minimun
dollar amount and time passage requirements before a report
and investigation will commence.
Dear Sir,
Enclosed you will find the revised policy of the Ramsey
County Sheriff's Office regarding the requirements
for acceptance and investigation of NSF /NO ACCOUNT checks.
This policy will be effective August 15, 1990.
These changes are consistent with those adapted by other
surrounding jurisdictions long ago.
The most significant requirement change is the dollar
amount of the check to be at least $50.00 and no longer
than 30 days passage from the acceptance of the check and
the reporting to the Sheriff's Office for investigation.
Additionally, we have included some identification and
criminal intent elements to also be present prior to
accepting the report and conducting any investigation.
This should have the impact of lessing your work load on
minor check offences, and allow us to reallocate our
resources more appropriately. As always, we will continue
to investigate all forgery complaints, regardless of dollar
value.
If you have any questions regarding this change, please
contact me.
Sincerely,
Charles L. Zacharias
By: Lt. Daniel J. Votel
Commander — Investigative Units
Page 37
