The street was placed in conjunction with sewer and water
facilities in 1979. The existing street section consists of 6" of granular base and 2" of bituminous
material and is 30 feet wide.
The existing street section is inadequate for the conveyance of projected traffic loadings.
The existing 300 foot portion of Desoto Street will be removed and replaced with the proposed
street section.
The proposed street design consists of the following street section:
1 -1/2 inches - 2341 Bituminous Wear Course
1 -1/2 inches - 2331 Bituminous Base Course
8 inches - Class 5 Aggregate Base, 100% Crushed
This section is a typical section for a 7 ton residential street of moderate residential traffic.
the proposed street section for Desoto Street is illustrated on Figure No. 2.
Soil borings were taken within the development area. The soil consultant indicated in his
report that the subsurface soils are considered to be marginally suitable for normal street
construction. Sandy loam clays with water - bearing sand lenses were encountered just below the
ground surface at locations where Desoto Street is to be placed. These soils are very frost
susceptible and lack stability. Therefore it becomes necessary to dewater the subgrade and to
provide a boundary to promote separation of the subgrade from the street section.
37207.RPT
4.
Page 68
