MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
AUGUST 8, 1991
Pedersen indicated that no matter what is done to the
structure, it will always look like a cabin. Pedersen
asked if this is what the City wants for the area, or
is the area in a transition mode.
Garske suggested that if the structure is torn down it
could become a weed patch. Garske stated that he had a
problem with the front yard setback for the structure,
and was concerned about the ability to park a car on
the lot.
Drabik suggested that the City require a landscape plan
for the property that would show parking. Drabik also
suggested a deadline be established for implementation
of the landscape plan.
Bendel felt aesthetics was an important issue, and felt
that the City had the opportunity to make the property
a little more appealing.
McBride reported that the property owner would like to
construct a garage on the property, but was informed
that this could not be done. McBride pointed out that
a garage would make the structure appear larger than it
is.
Pedersen stated that he would like to know the maximum.
to which the structure can be expanded.
Bendel suggested that McBride work with the Building
Inspector, and City Planner on a landscape plan for the
property.
McBride reported that he would work with the City on a
landscape plan, and would also like to submit a
proposal for a garage.
Garske pointed out the Commission's responsibility to
protect the citizens -at- large. Garske was concerned
that approval of the CUP and Variance might result in a
structure that devalues the surrounding property
values.
Pedersen asked if the precast slabs will remain on the
property.
McBride replied that they will not.
Herkenhoff recommended approval of the Conditional Use
Permit to allow the improvement of a non - conforming
single - family structure to bring the structure up to
minimum standards, and a Variance to the Code to allow
Page 6
