c. Present tentative budget to the Park and Recreation Commission <br />and Cable Committee for their review and recommendations. <br />2. Monitor and account for the expenditures of the assigned portions of <br />the city fund. <br />D. PUBLIC RELATIONS AND LIAISON: <br />1. Develop and implement an on -going public relations plan which <br />includes how specific programs will be marketed, audiences <br />targeted and the media used to full advantage. <br />2. Develop and maintain regular contact with Park and Recreation <br />Commission members and work toward effective relationships with <br />the total Parks and Recreation Commission. <br />a. Inform Parks and Recreation Commission of activities and <br />progress in recreation program efforts at monthly meetings. <br />b. Prepare reports for Park and Recreation Commission <br />and City Council at least quarterly. <br />3. Develop and maintain productive and effective relationships with <br />the City Council members, staff, community education personnel and residents. <br />CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR OR INADEQUATE PERFORMANCE: Inadequate performance as Community <br />Services Director could result in an unproductive work environment and poor results <br />in teamwork and programming. Improper attention to budget and fiscal <br />responsibilities could result in less than adequate budgets and less than adequate <br />programming. Poor relationships with committees and support groups could lead <br />to a reduction in funding and program effectiveness. Poor performance affects <br />the total City program as well as the people's perceptions of the City and its <br />services. <br />SUGGESTED QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education: Bachelor's degree required. (Park and Recreation or related major <br />preferred.) <br />Experience: Professional experience in recreation or related area is <br />preferred. Experience writing news releases, and program <br />brochures is preferred. <br />Skills /Abilities: Communication skills (verbal and written) are essential for <br />the success of this position. Also required is the ability to <br />teach /conduct recreation programs; the ability to network with <br />other community agencies; and the ability to provide leadership <br />and motivation. Organizational, management and public relations skills <br />are required. A car and valid drivers license are also required. <br />COMPENSATION: <br />1. Part -time annually renewable appointment (approximately 10 -20 hrs /week). <br />2. No health or life insurance provided. <br />3. Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Paid <br />membership to Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association. <br />Expenses and mileage incurred in job will be reimbursed according <br />to city employee policy. <br />4. Other employee benefits are pro -rated according to hours worked (PERA <br />FICA, vacation, sick time)-. <br />Page 26 <br />
