POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY WRITE -UP <br />(Mounds View) <br />DATE: May, 1987 <br />POSITION TITLE: Director - Parks, Recreation and Forestry <br />DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation and Forestry <br />ACCOUNTABLE TO: Clerk- Administrator <br />Primary Objective of Position <br />To organize, direct, implement and coordinate Department programs in <br />a manner which results in effective planning, development and <br />maintenance of park areas, recreation programs and related <br />facilities. <br />Major Areas of Accountability <br />Develops and implements effective public relations programs which <br />will generate community and individual support for provided parks <br />and recreation activities. <br />- Edits the City Newsletter to insure information provided to <br />the community is accurate and presented in a manner which <br />;, encoyrages.,,.partzcipation and support <br />- Oversees a variety of public relations activities designed to <br />make the most effective use of available promotion <br />possibilities through local media; flyers, school <br />announcements, posters, letter correspondence, etc, and <br />follows through to evaluate, to the extent possible, the <br />success of such endeavors. <br />Writes and submits grant applications to state, county and federal <br />agencies in order to supplement funding of city park development and <br />acquisition. <br />- Maintains sufficient liaison with funding agencies to uncover <br />additional monies for which the City of Mounds View might be <br />eligible. <br />Develops and submits a sound and documented recreational <br />programming and parks department budget and controls expenditures <br />accordingly within approved budgetary limitations including both the - <br />needs of the recreation programs equipment inventory and supplies, <br />recreation activities and park needs. <br />Participates with the Public Works Foreman in developing a <br />comprehensive park- maintenance program to include mowing, care and <br />grading of ballfields, parking lot maintenance, shelter building, <br />flooding for ice rinks, etc. and follows through to ensure the <br />program is effectively implemented as scheduled. <br />Page 35 <br />
