Position Responsibility Write -up Page 2 <br />Director of Parks and Recreation <br />Prepares and submits for approval annual department budget, and 10 <br />oversees the implementation of the approved budget, which includes <br />the establishment of fees and charges, and the control of <br />expenditures. <br />Develops and implements grant applications as applicable to park 11 <br />and recreation programs. <br />Keeps City Manager informed on any important development which 12 <br />he will need to know to function effectively as the Executive <br />Administrator for the city. <br />Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as 13 <br />apparent or as delegated. <br />Knowledge and <br />Ski <br />11 Re.uired <br />College degree (preferably advanced degree) in Park and Recreational <br />Administration, plus five year's successful experience as head of a <br />recreation program. <br />Thorough knowledge of city organization related to park and recrea- <br />tional activities, and of city operational procedures. <br />Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of public admin.istra- <br />Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with <br />advisory groups, the Parks and Recreation staff, city department <br />heads, and the general public. <br />Thorough knowledge of the function, design, and maintenance of parks <br />and recreational areas and facilities. <br />Thorough knowledge of recreational programming. <br />Thorough knowledge of available grants and accessory funds available <br />to local parks and recreation departments. <br />Ability to select, train, and supervise department and volunteer <br />personnel. <br />Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and <br />through written correspondence and reports. <br />Extent of Supervision or Guidance Provided <br />Under the supervision of the City Manager. Position requires <br />considerable latitude for the exercise of good judgment. <br />Responsibility for Public Contact <br />Almost continual contact with the public, requiring a high degree of <br />tact, courtesy, and good judgment. <br />Page 43 <br />
