Position Responsibility Write -up Page 2 Director of Parks and Recreation Prepares and submits for approval annual department budget, and 10 oversees the implementation of the approved budget, which includes the establishment of fees and charges, and the control of expenditures. Develops and implements grant applications as applicable to park 11 and recreation programs. Keeps City Manager informed on any important development which 12 he will need to know to function effectively as the Executive Administrator for the city. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as 13 apparent or as delegated. Knowledge and Ski 11 Re.uired College degree (preferably advanced degree) in Park and Recreational Administration, plus five year's successful experience as head of a recreation program. Thorough knowledge of city organization related to park and recrea- tional activities, and of city operational procedures. Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of public admin.istra- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with advisory groups, the Parks and Recreation staff, city department heads, and the general public. Thorough knowledge of the function, design, and maintenance of parks and recreational areas and facilities. Thorough knowledge of recreational programming. Thorough knowledge of available grants and accessory funds available to local parks and recreation departments. Ability to select, train, and supervise department and volunteer personnel. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and through written correspondence and reports. Extent of Supervision or Guidance Provided Under the supervision of the City Manager. Position requires considerable latitude for the exercise of good judgment. Responsibility for Public Contact Almost continual contact with the public, requiring a high degree of tact, courtesy, and good judgment. Page 43
