MAR-12-19S1 15 :37 FROM 'SUIEENEY :& BORER
Thomas M. Sweeney
George F. Borer
Paul T. Ostrow
Douglas 8. R. Hanson
City Administrator
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Re: Pawn Shop Ordinance
Dear Mr. Hanson:
Telephone
(612) 222.2541
Facsimile
(612) 222-5269
Attached is a pawn shop ordinance for the City of Little
Canada. This proposed ordinance is modeled upon the pawn shop
ordinance in effect in Brooklyn Park. As you are aware,
Brooklyn Park prosecuted a store owner under this ordinance.
The owner then sought a civil injunction against enforcing the
ordinance. Eventually, the owner agreed to leave town and
dismissed the civil case.
You will note that I have left blanks for the license fees
in Section 817.20. This is a matter which can best be
determined by the City Council. The Brooklyn Park Code provides
for annual licensing fees of $250 for secondhand goods dealers,
$500 for a multiple sales license, and $600 for a pawnbroker.
I understand this on the agenda for Wednesday, March 13,
1991. Please contact Thomas Sweeney or me if you have any
questions.
DBM:gc
Enclosure
Very truly yours,
SWEENEY & BORER
Page 1
o &glas B. Meslo
