ft'Iinnesota <br />Mayors <br />Association <br />RESOLUTION <br />Whereas, :,ities in Minnesota deliver essential services such as <br />police and fire protection, snow plowing and street construction <br />and maintenance, sewer and water service, and <br />Whereas, cities have differing service needs and differing <br />capacity to raise necessary revenues locally, and <br />Whereas, state financial assistance programs such as local <br />government aid and homestead credit aid have been used to lower <br />and equalize Minnesota residents' property tax burdens, and <br />Whereas, the legislature required cities in Minnesota to cut <br />their budgets by three percent in 1990, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Minnesota Mayor <br />Association opposes further reductions in local government aid, <br />homestead and agricultural credit aid, and other programs which <br />provide state financial assistance to cities. <br />Passed by the Minnesota Mayors Association, October 12, 1990. <br />Executive Secre 'tary <br />/ . l <br />Mayor Bob Benke, New Brighton <br />President, <br />Minnesota Mayors Association <br />Page 22 <br />
