MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
February 7, 2006
was allocated for rt. The Commission had talked about placing a deck over the wetland area
either off of Lake Street or Jackson Street. The Lake Street side contains a steep slope down to
the wetland, but is closer to the playground. Steinert felt that an observation deck could be
placed on top of the slope instead of down by the wetland thereby addressing accessibility
issues. The Commission seemed to prefer the Lake Street location due to its proximity to the
playground and the on-street parking. The Director indicated that this item will be carried over
to next month's agenda. In the meantime, he encouraged Commissioners to think about this
issue and even visit the area. Sanders stated that he would prepare a couple of sketches showing
proposed locations and would present estimates on cost.
COMP. PARK Sanders stated that the park inventory work for the Comprehensive Park Plan was completed
PLAN last fall. He presented Commissioners with new maps that were prepared. He also handed out
proposed text for each of the parks. He indicated that at next month's meeting, he will review
each park with the Commission to discuss issues and opportunities at each park. The
community survey results will also be presented. Following that, the Master Park Plan will be
updated with the items discussed and the text will be finalized. This process should take about
six months to accomplish. The Park Plan can be adopted separately from the City's
Comprehensive Plan. Sackett Glaser commented that this process is very important and could
impact the park system for several years. She commended Sanders for his work on this project.
COMMUNITY The Director stated that the community survey has been finished. Decision Resources is now
fiURVEY tabulating the results from the 400 residents that they surveyed. Their findings will be presented
at an upcoming meeting.
DIRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following items:
REPORT
The children's skating party was held last weekend. Approximately I50 kids attended this
LCRA-sponsored event.
Summer ball registration will begin soon. Day Camp will not be offered this year since
Little Canada Elementary and St. John's Schools offer similar programs that conflict with
Day Camp.
A group photo of the Commission for the web site will be taken next month assuming all
members will be in attendance.
ADJOURN Neis recornnzended that the ueeeting be adjourr:ed.
Motion seconded by Mans.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
Res~~fidly s~}rtted,
i~ ~'
is Pechman
