c4 CCJCGilaik
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: March 20, 1992
RE: Re- districting
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Bill Blesener
Rick Collova
Jim LaValle
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Enclosed are some maps which show our present precinct
boundaries for the City of Little Canada (Map 1). Another
map is also enclosed which shows the new house district
legislative boundaries that have been established by the
State of Minnesota (Map 2). This will necessitate an
adjustment of our precinct boundaries.
In reviewing the 1990 census information, the existing
Precinct No. 1 has 4,116 people over age 18 while Precinct
No. 2 has 2,902. We also analyzed the population based on
dividing the City into quadrants with the dividing lines
being I35 and Little Canada Road (Map 3). The population
for these areas is as follows:
West of freeway, north of Little Canada Road: 1,205
West of freeway, south of Little Canada Road: 2,911
East of freeway, north of Little Canada Road: 2,155
East of freeway, south of Little Canada Road: 747
Another part of the analysis which was undertaken related
to comparing our precinct populations with that of other
precincts in Ramsey County. We discovered that our
Precinct No. 1 is presently the third largest precinct in
population over 18 years of age. Most precincts seem to
have an average number somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000
people. The population of the precinct is a critical
factor in providing efficient voting services.
Page 69
