(64 02
515 Little Canada
(612) 484
TO:
9;414 Ceataar✓a
Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
-2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: June 5, 1992
RE: Summer Help Hiring
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Bill Blesener
Rick Collova
Jim LaValle
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Hiring of temporary help for the summer for both Day Camp
and Public Works has been finalized subject to ratification
by the City Council. For Day Camp, 23 applications were
received and all applicants were interviewed. Thirteen
were hired. (See attached listing for hires and rate of
pay.) Of the 23 applications received, six were Little
Canada residents, four of which were hired. Seventeen
non - resident applications were received, nine of which were
hired. In many cases, the non - residents have had
experience working with our Day Camp in the past or working
in another community's day camp thereby providing a great
deal of expertise to our program.
It should be noted that Day Camp Director Jeanna Frattalone
conducted the hiring process under my supervision.
Formerly, Day Camp directors have conducted this process
under the supervision of the community school coordinator
assigned to Little Canada Elementary School. One may also
notice that the daughter of our Parks and Recreation
Director is proposed to be one of the assistant
counselors. As a point of information, she has been in
this position for the past few years and was initially
hired when the program was not under the direction of the
City of Little Canada. While we want to be cognizant of
the concerns raised by the hiring of relatives, we feel
Lisa is a worthy candidate who should not be penalized due
to the transition occurring in our Parks and Recreation
Department.
In Public Works, 51 applications were received for the
part -time positions. Twenty -two of these were residents
and 29 were non- residents. The proposed list of hires is
as follows: Pat Frattalone, Eric Kendig, Scott Fitzgerald,
Page 7
