MINUTES OE THE REGULAR MEF,TING
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA
July 6, 2006
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission
of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota was held on the 6'~' day of July, 2006 in the Council
Chambers of the City Center located at 515 Little Canada Road East in said City.
Chair Tony Mans called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. and the following members of the
Commission were present:
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Tony Mans, Chair
Ms. Pam Davis
Ms. Clara Neis
MEMBERS ABSENT: Mr. David Gray, Vice-Chair
Ms. Molly Boss
Mr. Kevin Steinert
ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
Mr. Bill Sanders, Parks Consultant
Ms. Kris Pechman, Recording Secretary
.MINUTES Davis reco»zn:ended that the n:izzutes front the meeting beld on Juzze 1, 2006 be approved as
submitted.
Motion seconded by Neis.
Motiozz carried 3 - 0.
JOHNSON Pat Johnson of 3032 LaBore Road was present to discuss the proposed development of his
DEVELOP- property. Currently, he plans to subdivide his property to create seven new buildable lots
MENT for single family homes. His property encompasses several acres of wetland, much of which
CONCEPT is relatively dry. He described his desire to donate an easement from the cul-de-sac to the
wetland, and would also like to donate the wetland to the city for a future walking trail. He
indicated that the property is beautiful with large pines and birch trees. Additionally, the
property is filled with wildlife such as deer and fox. He stated that he has lived there for 35
years and is very familiar with the property. He mentioned that most of the wetland is dry and
he has taken several soil borings to prove thaC fact, but it is designated by the DNR as wetland
so he cannot build upon it.
Johnson stated that his property is just south of the power line trail. All that would be needed
for access to the power line trail is an easement from the Miranda family. Additionally, he felt
the property owners to the south will eventually develop their property. When development
occurs, a connection could possibly be made to Lake Gervais. This would create a beautiful
trail through the wetland and wildlife areas.
