MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />July 6, 2006 <br />Sanders felt that the idea was interesting and would create a very nice trail if it could be <br />accomplished. The Director felt that the Watershed District will probably require some <br />mitigation and he'd be interested to see their requirements. The Director suggested discussing <br />this item at the next meeting to see if a connection to Lake Gervais could be made. He felt that <br />the project did warrant further study and evaluation. <br />Johnson invited Commissioners to walk the property. He stated access could be made at 3046 <br />LaBore Road. This home is currently vacant and is owned by Johnson. He indicated that he <br />would like to proceed with the preliminary plat approval by October. He stated that he will be <br />meeting with City Administrator Joel Hanson, the City Planner, Watershed District, and the City <br />of Maplewood on July 17. More information will be available after that meeting as to the <br />mitigation requirements. <br />AUGUST Mans stated that the August meeting is currently scheduled on the same night as the ice <br />MEETING cream social. He suggested rescheduling the meeting to another night. The members presented <br />suggested rescheduling the meeting to Wednesday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m. Pechman stated that <br />she would send an e-mail to the Commissioners who are not present at tonight's meeting to see <br />if this date is acceptable to them. She will report her f ndiugs to Mans. <br />MASTER Sanders stated that the Commission has already discussed all of the park areas at previous <br />PLAN meetings. The next area to discuss involves trails within the city. Sanders suggested tabling <br />REVIEW this discussion until more members of the Commission are present. <br />NADEAU Mans stated that it was obvious from the discussion at last month's meeting that the neighbors <br />WILDLIFF, are against the addition of a wildlife observation deck at Nadeau Wildlife Area. The Director <br />DECK stated that he could not attend last month's meeting and he was surprised when he read the <br />minutes regarding the security concerns since he has never received a security complaint in the <br />past. The Director also commented that the according to Public Works' records, the streets were <br />swept much earlier than was reported by the neighborhood at last month's meeting. <br />The Director stated that if the neighbors are against the observation deck, the project would be a <br />hard sell He suggested tabling this item due to lack of interest on the part of the neighbors. <br />Davis commented that she has contacted the Watershed District about the wetland protection <br />concerns raised at last month's rneeting. Watershed staff is reviewing the concerns with a site <br />visit and will get back to the Director with (heir findings. The Director stated that having the <br />Watershed perform the review is fine, but details of any corrections involving expenditures <br />would have to be worked out with the city. <br />Sanders suggested holding annual meetings with the Watershed to discuss various topics of <br />concern. <br />THUNDER Sanders stated that he has met with the City of Maplewood and they are ready to begin the <br />BAY TRAIL project. Bids for this project will go out shortly. Funding for Little Canada's portion of the trail <br />comrection is available. The two cities need to sign ajoint powers agreement for costs.
