MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />July 6, 2006 <br />Mans reported that the trail comzection by the Porterhouse is complete. The Maplewood and <br />Shoreview connections are pending. <br />OTHER Other business included the following: <br />BUSINESS <br />• One opening still remains on the Parks & Recreation Commission and Gray also informed <br />the Director today of his resignation due to other commitments. To date, no applications <br />have been received to fill the openings. The Director encouraged the Commission to talk to <br />people they know that maybe interested in serving. Mans suggested adding the <br />appointment of a new vice-chair on next month's agenda since there aren't enough members <br />present at tonight's meeting to make such an appointment. Davis mentioned at last month's <br />meeting that she would be willing to serve as vice-chair. <br />• Mans commented that someone told him they saw the Nadeau Wildlife Area neighborhood <br />meeting replay shown on Channel 16. Pechman stated that she has contacted the Cable TV <br />Producer about adding a link to our web site that would show this meeting online. A <br />rebroadcast schedule of this meeting should be available right on Channel 16. <br />• The Tree Inspector is putting together a report for Xcel Energy on the status of the trees <br />under the powerlines. This report will state which trees the city would like to relocate and <br />which ones can be moved. Xcel Energy has already started to remove trees that were not as <br />controversial and has removed buckthorn for the city. The Director reported that the <br />Watershed District is looking into wild grass for the area so it won't have to be mowed. <br />• The Minnesota Correctional workers have spent several hours in April and May working on <br />landscaping, mowing, mulching, trash collection, and remodeling of the Old Fire Hall. <br />• Registration for fall youth programs has started. These programs include after school <br />basketball, soccer league, soccer clinic, and volleyball. <br />• Registration for fall adult softball has also begun. <br />• Online recreation registration will be available beginning the week of July 17. Residents <br />will be able to view activities, see how many openings still exist, and pay by credit card. <br />Staff will be able to create rosters, mailing labels, and easily view status of registrations <br />from the database that will be created. <br />• A donation of $1,000 was received from resident Patricia O'Neil. Patricia recently had a lot <br />split that was granted and to show her gratitude, she made the donation towards Little <br />Canada's parks. The Director stated that he would send her a thank you and would work <br />with her to decide how the money will be spent. <br />• Davis asked who should be contacted with items to add to the agenda. The Director stated <br />that items for the agenda should be chaiweled through Mans. The deadline for placement of <br />items on the agenda is noon on the Thursday before the meeting. <br />• Davis stated that the Watershed would like permission to place educational brochures in a <br />box on a post near the Noel Drive entrance to Gervais Mill Park for people to take with <br />them. The Director stated that litter could be a concern, but stated that they would try it. He <br />stated that Louise Watson of the Watershed should contact him to determine a location. <br />• Davis asked if the city has any natural history notes on Gervais Mill Pond. Sanders didn't <br />know of anything official. The Watershed could contact the Historical Society on cultural <br />history of the park. <br />• Davis announced that in the evening of July 18, the Watershed District will be hosting 60 <br />Ramsey County Master Gardners for their monthly meeting.
