These supplies are for a project
that I had hoped to have well underway by now, but due to a bureaucratic
snafu I have been unable to attain a building permit from the City of Little
Canada on the schedule I had hoped for.
I would like to explain what the plan and what the holdup is. And hopefully
gain your support so that the City can issue the appropriate permits before
the winter season sets in.
The plan is to remove the existing roof from the garage area and add a
second floor above the garage. This would allow for the addition of two new
bedrooms plus a badly needed office' den area. The addition plan has been
approved by the inspector, but he cannot issue a building permit due to a
problem created by the contractor that originally built the foundation for
the house.
When the contractor put the foundation on the lot in August of 1981, they
somehow placed the foundation within the 10 foot setback area on the
southeast corner of the house. This problem was discovered when I had the
yard sun/eyed in August of 19&& in preparation of having the fence
installed. When the problem was discovered, I notified the City clerk and
filed a request for a variance. At that time the city planner suggested that
1 purchase the empty lot to the south of our house. I have tried, but that
has become an impossible request since the owner of that property has
waged a battle to do want he wants regardless of the impact it has on our
Page 21
