MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
NOVEMBER 12, 1992
CONDITIONAL Mr. John Olson, Precision Tree, appeared before the
USE PERMIT Commission regarding his application for Conditional Use
FOR OUTDOOR Permit to allow outdoor storage in conjunction with his
STORAGE landscaping business which he wishes to locate to 2929
2929 COUNTRY Country Drive. Olson reported that he has reviewed
DRIVE the recommendations of the City Planner as contained in
PRECISION his report dated November 5, 1992, and he agrees to
TREE comply with those recommendations.
DeLonais pointed out that the City Council is questioning
this application. The area is zoned PUD and there are
certain stipulations for the types of buildings that can
go in a PUD District.
Olson reported that he has discussed this with the City
Planner whose concern was with type of construction.
Olson indicated that if he were ever to build another
structure on the property, he thought he could conform to
the PUD requirements.
Pedersen pointed out the Schmeig proposal on the Malsam
property. Pedersen asked how this proposal could be
approved if Schmeig was denied.
The City Planner pointed out that Schmeig was proposing a
new structure, while this proposal involves existing
structures.
Pedersen pointed out that the Commission discussed
requiring Schmeig to redo the front of the Malsam house.
DeLonais pointed out that Precision Tree is currently
operating out of a structure that was a single- family
home over on County Road D.
Olson reported that his operation on County Road D has
been there for 15 years and goes practically unnoticed.
Pedersen questioned the impact on the adjacent property
should Precision Tree move into the Country Drive area.
Pedersen asked who would develop next to the Precision
Tree site, and felt that the proposal would be out of
character with the development that is occurring in the
area.
Olson suggested that they may be the next new building in
the neighborhood. However, Olson reported that he has no
immediate plans for changing the structures as they exist
now.
DeLonais felt that the City should consider approval of
the Precision Tree proposal, pointing out that
development on Country Drive is at a stand still, and
Page 4
