We also have a child car seat short -term loaner program of' infant, toddler, and special needs seats, an up -to -date directory of all loaner programs in the state, and a "Child Car Seat Recalls" list. The leading cause of death in children is automobile crashes, not so- called "childhood diseases ", More than 70% of these deaths could be prevented if children were properly restrained in a seat belt or, for children under four, in a child car seat. Remarkably the majority of child car seats in Minnesota are not being used properly. February 8 -14, 1993 is National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week. This week is dedicated to children all around the country and the hope that we can keep them safe from injury while they ride in cars. We need your support. Attached is a sample proclamation. This same proclamation is being signed by Governor Arne Carlson declaring Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week in Minnesota. Please join the Governor by declaring Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week in your community, and, if possible, enlist your local media to cover your signing ceremony.
